German Castles
Falkenstein - Hettstedt
This well-preserved medieval castle lies
in a picturesque mountain spur of the Selke Valley in the
Harz Mountains. It was built to withstand heavy attack, and
an invading army faced no less than six doors before they
reached the main part of the castle.
It was at this castle that Eike von Repkow
compiled the famous Sachsenspiegel book of law. Falkenstein
Castle was used as a hunting lodge for many years and now
houses a large hunting museum.
