Italian Castles
Bari
- Apulia
This medieval castle was built to protect
the town and provide needed coastal defenses. Construction
began in the early 13th century, during a time when Frederick
II banned private castles, so this was built to serve military
functions.
This castle looks like many strongholds
in Syria, its design influenced by the many cultures that
passed through Italy. This castle consists mainly of a central
structure with square corner towers. Defense was provided
by thick walls and deep ditch in front of the castle.
