Castel del Monte - Apulia

This castle is a remarkable study in symmetry in medieval architecture. It has an octagonal layout, with an interior of the same shape. An octagonal shaped tower was built at each exterior corner of the massive keep. The Castel del Monte is a classic example of the blend between Islamic and Western European styles.
