Spanish Castles
Penafiel, Valladolid Province
This castle's unique features make it one
of the longest, and most narrow in all of Europe. Set on a
narrow, rocky hilltop, it looks like a tall, stony ship sailing
across the Spanish landscape.
Construction on this castle began in the
early 14th century by Don Juan Manuel. This location was the
site of a fierce Reconquista battle. The coats of arms of
Castille, Aragon and the House of Giron decorate the façade.
